How DTF Printing Works
Direct to Film (DTF) printing uses a specialized printer to print your design onto a piece of PET film — similar to how a desktop printer prints on paper. A hot-melt adhesive powder is applied, the film is cured, and then the transfer is heat-pressed onto your garment.
The result: a full-color, durable design bonded directly to the fabric.
Why DTF Is Great for Small Orders
Unlike screen printing, DTF doesn't require color-specific screens or a setup fee per ink color. That makes it ideal when:
- You have a design with many colors
- You're ordering fewer than 24 pieces
- You need a fast turnaround
- Your design has fine detail, gradients, or photographic elements
Quality and Durability
Early DTF technology had a reputation for stiff, plastic-feeling prints. That's changed. Modern inks and equipment produce prints that are:
- Soft to the touch — They flex with the fabric rather than sitting on top
- Washfast — Hold up to regular machine washing without cracking or peeling
